By Charlotte Rogers Sherman For as long as he can remember Terry Dean has had an interest in old tractors and their history. As soon as he was able he began collecting them, many of which may be seen at his home on Dings Hollow Rd. The interest in tractors and their restoration would eventually lead him to writing numerous articles for a magazine devoting its issues toward the interests of engineers and engines. One of the articles Terry wrote was about the Allis-Chalmers tractors. Those. articles have proved him very learned in that field and he was solicited by a publishing house to write a data book on Allis-Chalmers tractors and crawlers (bull dozers). Terry accepted the challenge, was given a year to write the book, and the completed manuscript was in the publishers hands prior to the deadline. Terry notes that he had never really been interested in writing or any kind of history during his informative years of public schooling but he's seen those interests develop and become stronger, as he matured, to where they are now a very important part of his life. |
Terry's book is titled "Data Book On Allis-Chalmers Farm Tractors and Crawlers", which Terry notes as containing heavy technical information for AllisChalmers tractor collectors. The publication, is pocket-size and handy for carrying to sales, auctions etc. The internet has been a huge source of information for his books, Terry notes. He states that the net has provided him with information "I couldn't find elsewhere.' The net has also found him able to buy old books, antique historical documents on tractors and other informative material that add to his knowledge. "The book was twice as much work as I thought it would be," Terry noted, "but I'm happy with the way it came out." Terry is a fan of e-Bay, a site on the world wide web that provides opportunities to bid and buy on just about anything anyone is looking for. One of his purchases on that web-site has found him the proud owner of a photo of Cyrus McCormack complete with the famous gentleman's autograph, which. Terry has authenticated.

He has been solicited by the same publishing house to write two more books and they are in presently in the works. The first of those two books is an illustrated buyers guide on all makes of antique tractors and is being co-authored with Larry Swenson, an antique tractor parts dealer from Easton, Minn. and very learned in that field. The second publication is the AllisChalmers Buyers Guide. Both books will be of great interest to those seeking to buy or sell. Terry's life is not all given to writing, he is the head custodian at the Whitney Point Central School Adams Building as well as the husband of Lana and father to Kristy - age 16, Taron - age 14, and Maggie - age 9. All are students within the WPCS district. In acknowledgments penned in the forward of his book, Terry notes his gratitude for the support given him by Lana and the girls. Terry points out that he could not write without that support as he must spend hours not only writing but hours on the phone and internet researching information. Terry's book is available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com. Just about all tractor magazines will also make his book available for purchasing.
